This hat is a phenomenal piece of fashion history! It was created by John-Frederics, a custom millinery house that existed from 1929-1948. This hat is made of the finest materials. The straw is sturdy and alternates flatter and more textured plaits with a beautiful spiral weave to the crown. It is trimmed with blue ribbon bows and a veritable bouquet of millinery flowers enveloped in metallic gold veiling. There is a black elastic strap attached to the interior to secure the hat at a jaunty angle to the head. This is a museum quality piece which would be a fantastic addition to any collection and ensemble.

About the label: This hat bears a phenomenal label from John-Frederics with stylized Art Deco faces on it. This same label can be found on hats in the Metropolitan Museum of Art ,which has an extensive collection of hats designed by John-Frederics. Founded in 1929, the year the Great Depression started, unlike many other manufacturers at the time the brand flourished. The two founders, John Fred Frederics and John Harberger, both originally from Germany, would eventually go on to establish their own individual millinery businesses in the late 1940s. Harberger designed hats for film as well, including pieces worn by Vivien Leigh in the 1939 film "Gone With The Wind." John-Frederics hats were also popular among the stars off-screen, and were worn by the likes of Norma Shearer, Greta Garbo, and Joan Crawford. As quoted in the 1964 obituary for Mr. Frederics which ran in the New York Times, "if Mr. Fred or Mr. John created a hat for you you went out convinced that it was exactly the right hat.”
