This jacket has a special place in my heart as it was purchased early in my collecting days, and I'm glad to release it from the hoard so it can bring someone else the joy it's brought me! Adele Simpson was a talented designer whose work lives in many museum collections, including the MET's Costume Institute. She was also half of a fashion design duo -- Her husband, Wesley Simpson was a noted textile designer who collaborated with celebrated artists including Salvador Dali and Marcel Vertes. This late 1940s piece has a sleek peplum, blouson sleeves, and its original self fabric sash. It closes down the front with four self fabric buttons and a hook and eye. The lining is a wonderful peach crepe and it bears labels from both Adele Simpson and the Makoff department store in Salt Lake City.
Measurements:
Bust: 36-37" max
Waist: 28"
Condition: There is a small exceptionally well done repair under the left armpit where the jacket was patched from the reverse with the same fabric it's made from which is not noticeable when worn and does not effect the structural integrity of the piece. It gets so lost in the plaid I didn't notice it on set, but will happily send a photo on the area to any interested buyers!
